FORESTRY FOR MAINE BIRDS

Beauregard Woodlands, Old Town, Maine

Forestry for Maine Birds pairs silviculture, the art and science of forest
management, with the habitat needs of Maine’s migratory forest songbirds. Learn to assess forest habitat and consider management options that benefit forest songbirds in a variety of forest types. This workshop is for foresters, woodland owners, land trust staff and members, and bird enthusiasts.


9:00-9:30           Registration, meet & greet

9:30-9:50           Introduction to Forestry for Maine Birds.

9:50-10:30        Walk to first site. Run “handy” habitat assessment.
Break into groups, run assessment, regroup & share findings.

10:30-11:45      Visit contrasting sites. Practice habitat assessment,
Discuss silviculture, etc.

11:45-12:00      Wrap-up, evaluation
12:00              Adjourn
