Join the 2020 Maine Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year, Drs. Bob Seymour and Jessica Leahy, for a tour of their woodlot in Mariaville. The hosts will describe many aspects of their management of the forest, and tour stops include:
1. History of Black’s Grove Tree Farm
2. Tree Planting
3. Best Management Practices and Trail Work
4. Pine Program (e.g., Pruning, Spraying and Bud Capping)
5. Pre-Commercial Thinning
6. Why We Don’t Do “Patch Cuts”
7. Long-Rotation Hemlock
8. Beech Management
9. Odds and Ends (e.g., Deer Exclosure, Chestnut Restoration, etc.)
Maine Forest Service District Forester, Michael Jensen, will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about what steps you can take to manage your woodland responsibly and what resources are available to you.
Space is limited to 10 participants, and we require all participants to wear a face covering and maintain a minimum of 6-foot spacing at all times.
